In financial terms, which is more expensive - an affair or a proper dating relationship?

I mean, if you're having an affair with a married man/woman, you will probably have to pay for hotel rooms etc. But, on the other hand, you will probably go out with that person less than you would with a regular dating partner.

Oh, and note, I am asking about the financial expenses - not the emotional or moral ones.
