Can a baxi back boiler fire be removed and the boiler still work?

I am just wondering whether it'd be possible for the hideous fire that is attached to my baxi back boiler to be removed and the boiler still work?

I was hoping to be able to stick a modern electric fire and mantel piece against the wall where the ugly fire is at the moment.

Failing that, anyone know of anywhere that you can get a half decent looking (more modern!!) replacement fire?
